San Vegas – By Denise M.

Often there’s a place I go
Deep within my mind
Not difficult to travel to
Nor difficult to find

Clearing head ‘n closing eyes
All aboard these nightly trains
Imagination clearly lies
Where reality refrains

Off to sun rain sand and fog
Off to waves of gold
Desert lights on flashy Strips
Or Market streets of old

She wears a youthful innocence
He wears a timeless smirk
Those two loved destinations
Is where this brain doth lurk.

You can surely find me here
Red eye ticket seven nights
Dreaming of my loved ones
Delightful cherished flights.

Your children are never far away
From thoughts or daily deeds
Take a midnight travel there
Destination wishful dreams.

About Denise M

I am a retired 64 year old nurse who was raised in Southern California. Today my better half and me (also in recovery) live in small rural town in South Utah. After choosing to go back out many times in recovery for numerous addictions, at 53 it occurred to me to finally get honest and serious. After jails and institutions, it was obvious death was next. My Higher Power had been waiting patiently. We made a deal: Constant contact for sanity. My two children son 44 and daughter 37 are so proud of their mama and finally have the kind of mom and step dad they have always deserved. It’s been a long, difficult, and painful road through eating disorders, physical disabilities, and mental illness. Withdrawal from decades of psych meds was no picnic. However, my sponsor and some amazing sister like girlfriends remind me daily that love within our recovery family can get us through anything and another 24. So grateful. We are indeed blessed.
