Yoga & Recovery – Podcast with Kyczy Hawk

Kyczy Hawk RYT E-500 is a yoga instructor and author. She teaches in treatment centers as well as yoga studios in her hometown of San Jose, CA. Her volunteer time includes teaching yoga in Elmwood Women’s Jail and The Recovery Cafe San Jose. She has been a space holder for the internationally known Y12SR (Yoga of Twelve Step Recovery) for over six years.

Kyczy has published several books including “Yoga and the Twelve Step Path” 2012 and “Life in Bite Sized Morsels” 2015. Her book “Yogic Tools for Recovery; A Guide To Working The Steps” which was launched November 14, 2017.

Kyczy has developed a series of yoga sequences for Studio Live TV that incorporate recovery principles in all-levels yoga classes. The link for them can be found on her website www.yogarecovery.com.
Recovery has allowed her to heal and enhance her relationships with her kids, her family and her grand-family. Life is now rich with possibilities which she explores with art, craft and travel.

About Nicola O'Hanlon

Meet our Editor-In-Chief, Nicola O’Hanlon. She created this website, along with the help of the InTheRooms team in September 2015. Her work has been published in several recovery magazines, including Recovery Today, In Recovery Magazine, AfterPartyChat.com, Psychology Today and Reach Out Recovery to name but a few. She has also had her work published in two Feminist anthologies and a book of personal recovery stories. Born and raised in Wexford, Ireland she still lives there with her two children, Christopher and Jessica. Her background is in healing through Massage Therapy, Reflexology and Sechiem Energy Healer. She has combined her professional and life experience and now coaches women on how to empower themselves. She runs the Womens Wisdom Healing Circle meeting, on InTheRooms.com every Sunday (Noon est 5pm UK & Ireland), which is a non program specific gathering of women seeking support, encouragement and healing. Already an expert on how not to live life she is a constant seeker of new and better ways of being. Nature is her Higher Power and she believes in magic, crystals and blames the phases of the moon for her multiple personalities.

  1. Kyczy, Thank you so much for this gentle, more in depth explanation of how yoga works the twelve steps through our bodies on all levels. I understand this now, as I have not before-intellectually. I find myself ready for more. I very much needed to hear your words, “when we are not safe, we do not grow…”.
    This is true for me. I must now give myself permission to find a safe place to do yoga, so that I can grow, and more deeply heal, in the ways my heart, mind and body is asking for, as you described. Heaviness and tightness in the lower back, the hips and pelvic areas, where I carry much stiffness that needs to be worked out. So very glad you are present and giving your gifts in wisdom, as you continually live your own exploration.
